Okay I have a lot to catch up on but for now, I'm just going to tell you about my new obsession... yoga.
On Friday, my friend and teammate Hannah had a fundraiser called "Get Bendy for a Cure". I was SO excited to hear this, I had always wanted to try yoga and this was the perfect chance. I attended the 6am session and absolutely loved it. A friend that Hannah introduced me to a couple months ago, Nickki, was the instructor. She went at a slow pace, explaining all the poses as she went along. It was perfect.
Sure enough, yesterday I found myself at the Yoga studio taking a flow class with the owner, Adrian. Golly, I looooved it! At the beginning of the class, he told us it was over 90 degrees in the room. You can only imagine how sweaty I was by the end of class. The class was the perfect length, 70 minutes, with probably about 10 other students. I was kind of nervous walking in, because well first of all, it was my first official yoga class. Second, it was with the head honcho so I was scared I wouldn't be able to keep up. And third, I was by myself. But I was just fine! Nickki did a great job introducing me to all the concepts so I had no problem catching on and keeping up. I am probably one of the most inflexible people alive, so I definitely think yoga would be good for me. Yep... I'm pretty much the new yoga freak in town.

I know I need to do it, but just cannot fit one more thing into my routine right now! But everyone who does it loves it and it sounds like you will be hooked too. I'm sure it will compliment your running nicely.
I've been loving yoga lately too, except haven't had much time to dedicate to it. I think I'm going to make it a priority over the next few weeks. It's so good for your body and mind!
i'm a yogi, but i don't do it enough to gain anything from running-- however, you have inspired me to do it more often! :)
i just signed up for another marathon and i'm going to try and do more cross-training.
I wish people would stop counting down to the marathon, it's freaking me out :) I've got 22 miles this weekend in the 88 degree temps so I guess if I can do that I'm golden!
I love yoga, it took me a long time to learn to love it though...right nwo I'm doing more stretching than true yoga because it really tires my legs
Oh geez I hate yoga, I dont bend like that!! I do it once a week, cuz my coach has it on my schedule, mine is only 30 minutes and I moan and graon the whole time. Yes I will admit it helps in other disciplines
You know I love yoga. Thank you SO MUCH for coming, and I'm so glad you love Siva. It is a fabulous place.
Keep it up. It is good stuff. Yoga + Running = Super Happy. :)
I'm not big into yoga but I probably should be. I think the combination of relaxation and stretching would be great for my mind and body. Good for you for finding something that you enjoy! And I bet it will help your running big time because of the core conditioning.
I went to my first class about a month ago and loved it. Haven't gone back yet, but since the marathon is over, I definitely want to work it into my routine!
OOOOH ONE MONTH!!! :D
Wow one month? So exciting. Just a little while and you'll be knee-deep in taper joy :). I don't do formal yoga or go to classes, but I do stretch a lot and have found some runner's yoga videos on runnersworld.com. It's made a huge difference in my knee pain to be able to keep my ITBand from getting too tight or inflamed.
I love doing yoga for cross training, it took me a while to get into it, but now I'm hooked.
btw, that Emily Giffin book is in hardcover, so far its good!
I attempted Yoga once....it was terrible. I was in my 20's and honestly was just to hyper to make it through an entire class:) This was a great post! Maybe someday I will attempt it again:) Have a great weekend Michele
Hmmm...maybe I'll have to give it a try again.
Also just wanted to let you know you won a prize in my contest. Congrats! Send me an email and I'll send you the details runfastmommy@gmail.com
